As part of our responsibility for the value chain, we focus on raw material sourcing. For us, responsible sourcing means promoting transparency and traceability to actively identify and leverage key opportunities for greater sustainability.
We rely on wheat flour sourced 100% from controlled contract farming — regionally supplied by selected partners in Germany and Poland. This enables traceability back to the field, keeps our supply chain in clear view, and guarantees transparency. Our partners use selected wheat varieties and proven cultivation methods. Regular inspections by the DEG ensure high standards. Through fixed purchase quantities and guaranteed prices, we create planning security for our farmers.
Palm oil is an essential ingredient in many of our products. Thanks to its unique properties, it is highly versatile: spreadable, creamy, heat-stable, long-lasting, and neutral in taste.
At the same time, we recognize that palm oil is controversial, as rainforests are cleared for its cultivation. However, it also offers key advantages: it delivers high yields on a relatively small land area, whereas alternatives like soy or rapeseed require about five times as much land (Source: WWF).Therefore, we only use palm oil sourced according to certified standards. We have been a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) since 2011. 100% of our palm and palm kernel oil is RSPO-certified (predominantly under the Segregated supply chain model, with a small portion via Mass Balance; learn more at rspo.org).
OUR COCOA: CERTIFIED AND TRANSPARENT
Whether in biscuits, bars, or fillings — cocoa gives many of our products their distinctive taste. At the same time, we are fully aware of the challenges in cocoa farming: that is why we source our cocoa Rainforest Alliance certified according to the mass balance principle (learn more at ra.org/mb). By doing so, we support agricultural practices aimed at protecting biodiversity and improving working conditions in growing regions.
